The Problem with Democracy

The innovation of democracy revolutionized political theory. It discerned that everybody is more capable of deciding what is best for everybody than some quantity of persons less than everybody. I agree.

Where I disagree with democracy, whether representative or direct, lies in the right of each citizen to cast a vote determining what is best for everybody else. If a king shouldn’t have that power, why should I? Why am I the best determinant of my neighbor’s best interest, and not my neighbor him or herself?
